Agrees\u2026 most of the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not because he\u2019s fake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because something in him
doesn\u2019t want to risk losing connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

I know that pattern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I stayed quiet when I had something to say.
I said \u201cit\u2019s fine\u201d when it wasn\u2019t.
I explained things I didn\u2019t need to explain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It looked like calm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It wasn\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Fear was underneath it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fear of being disliked.
Fear of disappointing people.
Fear of saying the wrong thing
and changing how I was seen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So I made things easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And after a while,
I couldn\u2019t hear myself clearly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not gone.
Just pushed down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

It shows up in small ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You feel something
and say something else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You want to say no
and still say yes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You leave a conversation
feeling off\u2026
and carry it with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

It doesn\u2019t look like a problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019re respectful.
Understanding.
Easy to be around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But inside,
you\u2019re negotiating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What to say.
What not to say.
How much to show.
How much to hide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

I wasn\u2019t expressing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was adjusting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

And that has a cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not rejection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Something quieter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A distance from yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

So I changed how I respond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not everything.
Just small things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I stopped explaining so much.
I let silence be silence.
I said what I meant
without adding extra to soften it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not perfectly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But clearly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I don\u2019t try to be easy anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I try to be honest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Not harsh.
Not careless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just honest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Because being nice is simple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Being honest
asks something from you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

And that\u2019s where it becomes real.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
